Annunciation

This angel is very tall, he takes up the whole height of the picture, though he is light as if he was only passing through, his right foot is resting on its point, his pagne though thick and heavy looks light, the folds on his back seem to loosen his body, as if an imperceptible move was given to his whole person. His cloth is not very usual in this country, no doubt he is a special visitor. He looks like being just put down. His profile is outlined, he is a little enigmatical, his right arm goes with his word. The move of his hands opened and turned towards the other in a complementary way reveals that the words are said in plain truth : kind proposal of the angel palms offered to Mary, apprehensive and timid acceptation of Mary palms risen towards the angel (God). |
