The Visitation

 

She is happy and her happiness bursts out everywhere. The foreground gestures stand out against the close country and further, the softness and the grandeur of Mandara mountains. The two women's cheerfullness is expressed through the lightness of the feet and the open welcoming hands. Everything here is a wink given to life : the two trees which bend gracefully, the two small birds picking about for food the two huts strangely perched on the top of the mountain and the others along the hillside, and at last but not least the two preignant cousins, one old, the other young. They meet to tell each other the good news of God's blessings because "Blessed are those who believed what they have been told on behalf of the Lord."
